Overcast skies hung ominously over Anaheim Stadium for the fifth round of the 2008 supercross series.
Coming off a disappointing weekend in the sloppy San Francisco conditions, Ivan Tedesco #9 wanted to
prove himself under normal racing conditions. Unfortunately, he would never get the chance as a
practice crash sidelined the former champion. Further diagnosis points to a possible break in his hand.
Tedesco's injury did not hamper the moral of the Honda Red Bull camp. In Heat 1, Andrew Short and
Davi Millsaps made a quick shuffle to the front of the pack. With Short in the front and Davi running
block, the Honda Red Bull riders started to pull away from Mike Alessi in third. On lap 4, Short stuck his
front wheel high in the turn four berm causing him to bobble and hanging up Millsaps. Alessi found his
way back in between the duo but was made quick work of in the whoop section by Millsaps. Honda Red
Bull finished the heat, 1-2 as Andrew Short went on to top Chad Reed for fastest qualifier honors.
The main event got underway and a battle quickly developed at the front of the pack between Chad
Reed, Kevin Windham and Davi Millsaps. Windham took a couple shots at Reed, each time the crowd
erupted into cheers. Davi Millsaps was not about to let the opportunity for a race win to slip away. On
lap 10, Millsaps finally found his way around Windham and pushed forward towards the leader. Chad
Reed had opened up a two-second gap on him and the remaining ten laps were not enough to get it
back. Davi finished second, his best on the season.
After qualifying first, Andrew Short got a rough start on the night. A mid-pack start forced Short to play
catch up the entire twenty lap race. At the end of lap one, Short had moved up to seventh and by lap
two he had moved to within striking distance of Alessi in fifth. Short managed his way around the Team
Suzuki rider and pushed forward onto the back wheel of Timmy Ferry in fourth. The checkered flag flew
before Short got his chance to do battle with Ferry, and simply ran out of real estate.
